Connect NORDVEST to AI tools

NORDVEST can connect to Claude, ChatGPT, and Codex so you can ask them about your customers, assets, service requests, We Owes, and service agreements — in plain English, from wherever you already use them.

Already have Tonttu? NORDVEST's built-in assistant (look for the chat icon in the app) needs no setup and no connection. It's part of the AI module — if you don't see the chat icon, ask your admin whether AI is enabled for your company. This page is for connecting NORDVEST to Claude, ChatGPT, or Codex directly, outside the app.

What connecting does

Once connected, you can ask Claude or ChatGPT things like:

  • "What's the status of the Miller Hydraulics service request?"
  • "Show me open We Owes for Cascade Fabrication."
  • "When was the last service on asset AC-4021?"
  • "Summarize this customer's service history."

The public connection supports both read and write access. NORDVEST shows exactly what the AI client requested before you approve it — see What the AI can see and do below.

Everything the AI sees is scoped to your company's own data — never another company's.

Connect Claude.ai

  1. In Claude.ai, go to Settings → Connectors.

  2. Click Add custom connector.

  3. For the URL, enter:

    https://app.nordvestops.com/mcp

  4. Click Connect. NORDVEST will ask for your company URL, then send you to that company's sign-in page.

  5. Sign in, review the access being requested, and click Approve.

Claude can now answer questions using your NORDVEST data.

Connect ChatGPT or Codex

OpenAI uses one Plugins Directory for ChatGPT and Codex. Once Nordvest Ops is published there:

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT or the ChatGPT desktop app.
  2. Search for Nordvest Ops and click Install.
  3. Click Connect when prompted.
  4. Enter your NORDVEST company URL, sign in on your company's page, and review the requested access before approving it.

The installed plugin can then be used in ChatGPT Chat or Work, and in Codex inside the ChatGPT desktop app. In Codex CLI, enter /plugins, install Nordvest Ops, and start a new session. Plugins are not currently available in the Codex IDE extension.

Connect in ChatGPT before the public listing is approved

If your ChatGPT account or workspace permits developer connections, you can use the production MCP server directly while the plugin is under review:

  1. Open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open ChatGPT Plugins and click the plus button.
  3. Name the connection Nordvest Ops and describe it as a connection to your NORDVEST service operations data.
  4. Under Connection, enter https://app.nordvestops.com/mcp and create the connection.
  5. Review the tools, then enter your NORDVEST company URL, sign in, and review the requested access before approving it.

Developer mode availability depends on your ChatGPT account and workspace policy. This direct connection is only the pre-publication setup; after the directory listing is available, install the reviewed plugin instead.

What the AI can see and do

Every approved connection can read:

  • Customers
  • Assets
  • Service Requests
  • We Owes (commitments, opportunities, warranties)
  • Service Agreements

It can look things up and search across these. A client that requests read-only access cannot change anything.

The public connection may also request write access. When it does, the consent page clearly says Write access requested and lists the records it can change. If you approve that request, it can additionally:

  • Create or update a customer account, and add or update a contact on one
  • Create or update a We Owe
  • Log an interaction (a note about a customer conversation)
  • Post a comment on a We Owe
  • Add a sub-task to a We Owe that is still open, and optionally assign it to someone
  • Update a sub-task's title, description, assignee, or mark it done/open again

Only Service Managers and Admins can authorize an MCP connection. Write access still checks your NORDVEST permissions on every action, even after you approve it.

Security, in plain words

  • Scoped to you and your company. The AI only ever sees your company's data — nothing from other NORDVEST customers.
  • You sign in to approve it. Connecting requires signing in to your own NORDVEST account and approving the request; nobody can connect on your behalf.
  • Nothing is shared until you approve. The consent page distinguishes read-only requests from requests that can create or update records. A token receives only the scopes shown and approved there.
  • Refresh cannot add permissions. Automatic token refresh keeps exactly the access you originally approved; it cannot turn a read-only connection into a write connection.
  • Every request is logged. NORDVEST keeps a record of what was asked for through the connection.

Managing and disconnecting

Go to Settings → AI Connections to see every AI tool currently connected to your account, what access it has (read-only or read and write), and when it was connected.

Click the trash icon next to a connection to revoke it — the AI tool loses access immediately. You can also remove the connector from Claude's or ChatGPT's own settings; either side works.

One-time reconnect after the public connector launch: Connections created with the earlier company-specific MCP URL cannot be reused. Remove the old connector and connect once with https://app.nordvestops.com/mcp. Future access-token refreshes happen automatically.

Troubleshooting

I don't see Nordvest Ops in Plugins yet. The public listing only appears after OpenAI approves it and NORDVEST publishes it. Until then, use the ChatGPT developer-mode steps above if your account permits them.

I don't see Developer mode or the plus button. Developer connections are controlled by your ChatGPT account and workspace policy. Ask your ChatGPT workspace admin, or wait for the public Plugins Directory listing.

I'm stuck in a sign-in loop. Make sure you entered the URL exactly as shown above. If it persists, sign out of NORDVEST in your browser and try connecting again.

The AI says it can't find my data. Double-check you approved the connector request fully — a partially approved connection can leave the AI without access. Try disconnecting and reconnecting.

The AI can see my data but says it can't make changes. Its current token may be read-only. Disconnect and reconnect, confirm that the consent page says Write access requested, and approve it with a Service Manager or Admin account. Every write still has to pass the same NORDVEST permission as the equivalent action in the app.

Still stuck? Email support@nordvestops.com and we'll help you get connected.
